  • Bumthang Valley at the elevation of 2,400 to 6,000 m above sea level is considered to be the one of the sacred places in the country owing to its large number religious monuments and festivals. According to the district administration, there are more than 115 monasteries and about 15 annual festivals in the district. Bumthang district houses the population of more than seventeen thousand local residences.

  • Bumthang dzongkhag consists of four main valleys Ura, Chumey, Tang and Choekor. Choekor valley is considered the largest in the Bumthang Valley. The district receives a large number of tourists each year, because of its rich history and beautiful landscape.
     
  • Bumthang is blessed with a very fertile land were farmers can reap good quality agricultural products such as buckwheat, rice, potatoes, apples and dairy farms besides which also include honey bee farming and sheep farming are the main economic revenue generator in the community.

  • Some of Bhutan’s oldest and most recognized temples are found in Bumthang, including Jambay Lhakhang. According to legend this ancient temple was built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in 659 A.D. as a part of chain of 108 simultaneously constructed temples in order to subdue an evil demoness that lay over the Himalayan regions.
